Final Image

This is my final image of Frederick Sommer's picture I emulated. I linked this to fashion photography  in a different approach as it involves a mysterious girl, clutching her chest. The picture conveys a dark and mysterious mood, allowing the audience to think about why this girl is there and what is going through her thoughts. I got my sister to stand with her hands clutching her chest, possibly to convey she is scared, or that she is mysterious and evil. The photo gives her a sense of innocence as she is a little girl, with plaits, wearing a white dress. I put red lipstick and black mascara on her, as when I changed it to black and white, her lips were able to really stand out, and her eyes really stand out and look sharp, like the original picture. The background I chose to use was an old shed, as it has a withered and old style, similar to the original photo.

I edited it even further, by altering the levels, to make the subject brighter, similar to the original one. I then changed the shadows and highlights on the background to really enhance the wood, giving it a rustic look.

To do this emulation, I added a red/orange tinted photo filter. I then overlaid red colours around the models arms and face slightly to create depth. I finally changed the levels to brighten her face up to give it a glow. The expression that Lydia is demonstrating a lot of attitude.  I decided to take this outside in the dark, with a flash to bring out the colours. For my next step, I am going to stand further back to get a much more of a portrait view, where her arms are more in view. I am also going to make the models head positioned more back, to look like the original photo.

Final Image

For this shoot, I edited it in black and white, and also added some texture over the top to give it a grainy effect, this makes the image look as if it is vintage and gives it a rustic look. The photo has been taken in a landscape format, then I cropped, to cut out the unnecessary background. To do this shoot, we decided to take this in the bathroom, as it had the right lighting as the photograph I was emulating. The model Lydia, is clutching the shawl around her delicately, whilst holding the cigarette in her mouth about to light it up.  I gave the model strong features, by highlighting her cheekbones to make them very prominent, like the original photo. I have taken this from a side angle to make it look as if she has just been caught off guard and isn't aware that her photo is being taken. The background is slightly in focus, the tiles can be seen, my next step for my emulation feedback, is to take the photo more close up and make sure the background is blurred.
